Malatona When It Rains

By lonelytuatara

I've been struggling to put my recommendation for Malatona When It Rains into words that aren't just "it makes me want to bite things". I know this is Tumblr, so that's probably a pretty solid recommendation on its own, but this comic deserves specifics so I will try!

Malatona examines the politics of a small provincial court and the lives of the people it is made of.

The murder of a government official stokes rising tensions, agendas within the court pit its members against one another, and the region teeters on the verge of ecological collapse.

Bureaucracy is a machine for chewing people up and spitting them out. It's also a machine made out of people.

Makkine brings the humanity of the cast to the forefront without exonerating any of them for their complicity in the system.

The traditional brushwork/digital color combination is also just a treat to look at! I don't want to go to Malatona, but it feels like I could.

I've been in the very lucky position of getting to see the comic as it develops, and lemme tell you, it's gonna go places.
